San Francisco, California: Gumbo Social today announced that June 3, 2023 will mark the grand opening of the much anticipated restaurant at 5176 3rd St, San Francisco, CA 94124. This comes after a successful Kickstarter campaign and overcoming several challenging hurdles to opening the restaurant doors.

“I firmly believe that Gumbo is the most important food to American culture and society,” Says Chef Dontaye Ball aka Mr. Gumbo, “The restaurant will help us bridge the gap and make Gumbo America’s National Dish.”

Key details

• The grand opening event is June 3, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM, after which the restaurant will remain open until 8 PM.

• The opening ceremony, taking place at 12 PM will feature words from community leaders and city officials, a second-line brass band, and a ribbon-cutting.

• A DJ will play music while guests enjoy food and beverages (available for purchase).

• The menu will feature “build your own gumbo” as well as a selection of other soul food favorites including five po’ boys and the California greens and other vegan options that became popular at farmers markets.

• Regular business hours will be Wednesday through Saturday from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Dine-in and takeout will be available.

“The restaurant is the connection point between the social and the gumbo,” says Chef Ball. “It’s important for us to bring both to the Bayview in San Francisco.”
